Here’s a great opportunity to combine business with pleasure. Swap the grim November weather and concrete sky engulfing much of Europe for almost guaranteed sunshine while catching up on developments in nanotechnology-based healthcare. The Third Annual Global Symposium on NanoBioTechnology comes to the California Nanosystems Institute (CNSI) on the campus of the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA) on 19 and 20 November.

Nanoscale research has led to techniques and devices that have the potential to revolutionise healthcare, note event organisers. The symposium titled New Directions in NanoHealth: Diagnostics, Therapies, Drug Delivery, and Nanosafety will explore a number of these developments including magnetic- and photonic-based  nanotherapy, tissue regeneration, cellular therapeutics and biosensors.

Participating institutions include:

  • California NanoSystems Institute (CNSI) at UCLA
  • Center for NanoBio Integration at the University of Tokyo
  • Nanomedical National Core Research Center at Yonsei University
  • Nanosystems Institute Munich, represented by the Technical University of Munich and Ludwig-Maximilians-University

Initiated in 2007, the annual symposium alternates locations between founding institutions CNBI in Japan and CNSI in the United States. To expand the global theme of the symposium, this year’s speakers include participants from Korea and Germany. Special emphasis will be given to breakthrough discoveries from laboratories in Asia, North America and Europe.
