Modern Plastics Adds Permanent Implantable PEEK to Medical Materials Portfolio

A permanent implantable medical-grade PEEK, MediPEEK-IM (polyetheretherketone) is now available from Modern Plastics. The high-performance semi-crystalline thermoplastic designed for long-term body contact is produced to ASTM F2026 specifications and has been extensively tested to ISO 10993. Applications include spinal cages, fixation rods, orthopaedic implants, ophthalmic tools, surgical instruments, and sundry dental and diagnostic devices.

The material is biocompatible, chemical resistant, sterilisable, radiopaque and exhibits mechanical strength, toughness and dimensional stability.

A distributor for Westlake Plastics Co., Modern Plastics adheres to US FDA–mandated CGMPs in its facilities. Rods measuring 20, 25, 30, 40 and 50 mm are in stock; other sizes are available on request.

MediPEEK-IM and the company that distributes it offer distinct advantages to alternative materials and suppliers, according to Modern Plastics President Bing J. Carbone. They include “easier and faster access, better supply-chain management and no contractual obligations.
