Spectar Copolyester Sheet Available in Orthopaedic Product Sizes
January 31, 2010 – 7:41 pmSpartech Corp., a supplier of engineered thermoplastic sheet materials and related products, has announced that it is now producing Spectar copolyester from Eastman Chemical Co. in 3/8- and 1/2-inch thick sheets for use in orthopaedic products.
Made from 100% Spectar copolyester resin, sheeting is available in 4 x 8 ft sizes off the floor; 8 x 10 in. hand samples are also available. Chemical resistant and noncorrosive, the material is suitable for thermoforming orthopaedic casts, chest protectors, neck braces and nursery isolettes. The copolyester sheet is also recyclable. Overages and trim can be reground and reprocessed into other nonmedical products.
Spectar copolyester offers the capability to produce complex shapes, precise details, deep draws and compound curves without a reduction in durability. It is easily formed, die-cut and punched, says Spartech, and brings manufacturers design freedom and lower fabrication costs. The material has passed appropriate ISO 10993 biocompatibility testing.
A producer of plastic products including polymeric compounds, concentrates, custom extruded sheet and rollstock products and packaging technologies for a wide spectrum of customers, Spartech operates facilities in the United States, Mexico, Canada and France.
