VTC TPE Group presented its new easy-flow grades of oil-free thermoplastic compounds for medical applications at last week’s MEDTEC Europe event in Stuttgart, Germany.
Part of its Mediprene OF series, the new grades are currently available in hardnesses of 60 to 90 Shore A. Harder and softer formulations can be accommodated on demand. Like all Mediprene OF compounds, the new grades are transparent and contain a minimum of potential extractables and leachables but they have a higher melt-flow rate than other materials in the family. This property makes the grades suitable for moulding thin-wall parts. Hot-melt adhesives adhere to the material, and it performs well on double-coated tapes for so-called stick-to-skin applications. Mediprene materials withstand most forms of sterilization and have passed cytotoxicity tests according to ISO 10993-5.
In other news, the company was recently acquired by polymers group Hexpol. The purchase will enable Hexpol to broaden its compounded products range, a market that is experiencing significant growth, according to Georg Brunstam, President and CEO of Hexpol.Norbert Sparrow
