DSM Biomedical and CDI Prolong Partnership
April 25, 2010 – 11:47 pmMaterials supplier DSM Biomedical has announced the extension of its partnership with Carbostent & Implantable Devices (CID), which markets the Optima Jet Stent Delivery System and Fluydo PTCA Balloon Catheter. CID uses DSM’s ComfortCoat hydrophilic coating on both devices, which were placed on the European market last month.
Designed to enhance the maneuverability of devices in minimally invasive procedures, the coating on the distal part of the Optima Jet shaft facilitates treatment of more complex anatomies, according to DSM. Additionally, the coating advances the Fluydo PTCA Balloon’s device deliverability, enabling it to reach and cross the most difficult lesions.
DSM Biomedical also develops materials for orthopaedic applications. In September, we reported on a family of ultrahigh molecular weight polyethylene formulated by the company that will enable the fabrication of stronger hip and knee implants with improved long-term stability.
