Everything You Ever Wanted to Know about Die Cutting

I received a call late last week from a charming woman by the name of Samantha Ciccone, asking if we could help her spread the word about a die-cutting blog that she is handling. How do you say no to someone named Ciccone?

Sponsored by Cut Smart Manufacturing, a supplier of metal fabrication services based in Waterbury, Vermont, USA, the blog is tech heaven for anyone the least bit curious about die cutting technology. Ciccone readily admits that she is new to the industry—her forte is social media and communications—but she is ably assisted on the technical front by Mark Batson Baril, who clearly lives and breathes the technology.

In the current lead article, Batson Baril explains why tooling costs skyrocket when customers request tighter tolerances on finished parts. He examines the differences in tools and tolerances when using the steel rule die, solid milled die and male/female (matched metal) tool and how each affects costs.

In an earlier post, Batson Baril highlights a method process calculator. “Whether you are engineering parts for R & D, or engineering for production quantities, start the process by knowing the best quality, fastest, and least costly way to produce,” he writes.  “The method process calculator uses a database of constantly updated industry engineering information to show you an accurate picture of possibilities, right now.”

If you are grappling with a die-cutting dilemma, www.diecuttingengineer.blogspot.com is definitely worth adding to your online toolbox.
