Low-Insertion-Force Connectors Feature Staggered Dual-Contact Arrangement

AVX GmbH, a manufacturer of passive components and interconnect products, has developed a range of 0.5-mm-pitch low insertion-force FFC/FPC connectors for price-sensitive applications. The Series 6284 connectors feature a staggered dual contact arrangement that results in a low insertion force and facilitates positioning and insertion of the FFC/FPC cable. “The simplicity of mating of the 6284 LIF FFC/FPC connectors suits medical applications and industrial test and measurement equipment,” says Andy Kotas, Marketing Manager for AVX/Kyocera Elco Connectors.
The design of the connectors ensures mating security. Although the connectors require a lower insertion force—reportedly nearly 25% less than other low insertion force connectors—their separation force is approximately double that of other designs. The connectors support an operating temperature range of –40 to 85°C.
