InMedica Predicts US$1.25-Billion Market for Compact Ultrasound by 2014
August 10, 2010 – 3:25 pmA report by InMedica titled “The World Market for Ultrasound Imaging Equipment – 2010 edition” forecasts a bright future for the market for compact ultrasound equipment. In 2009, this market was estimated to be worth US$810.9 million—a 15.3% increase over what it was in 2007. What is especially impressive about this growth is that it occurred in the midst of a severe global economic downturn.
InMedica predicts that, by 2014, the market will be worth US$1.25 billion, a 55.0% increase from 2009. This robust growth over the next five years is expected to result from continued penetration and establishment of compact ultrasound into new applications and geographical regions.
“Growth in the compact ultrasound market stems from demand for flexible imaging solutions in point-of-care applications, such as anaesthesiology and emergency medicine,” explains Stephen Holloway, Research Analyst at InMedica. “Here, premium image quality and complex features are not essential; instead, flexibility, functionality and rapid diagnosis are much more important. As a result, ultrasound manufacturers are producing compact systems designed specifically for point-of-care applications.”
