Liberating the NHS?
August 18, 2010 – 3:24 pm
Last month, the NHS published a white paper titled “Equity and excellence: Liberating the NHS.” The document recommends thorough structural reform, proposing that healthcare be “run from the bottom up, with ownership and decision-making in the hands of professionals and patients.” A significant portion of the document outlines how improving healthcare outcomes will be the primary aim of the NHS in the future. Most commentators agree that the proposed changes are significant. In fact, some argue that the proposal represents the most-radical upheaval of the UK healthcare system since the NHS was created in 1948. Others have criticised the recommendations, alleging that they would enable NHS patients to choose health treatments that are widely thought to be ineffective.
MedilinkWM’s CEO Tony Davis is calling on companies that do business in the United Kingdom to share their thoughts on the white paper, asking them to discuss the potential of the proposed reforms to affect the way the device industry does business in the United Kingdom.
