Free Webinar: How Components Are Driving Advances in Medical Device Miniaturisation and Performance

September 7, 2010 – 2:30 am

The next EMDT webcast titled “Innovation Inside: How Components Are Driving Advances in Medical Device Miniaturisation and Performance” will take place Tuesday, 14 September. During the one-hour webinar, industry experts from nano-electronics research center imec and semiconductor provider Texas Instruments (TI) will describe how emerging technologies are helping to make electronic devices smaller while increasing performance and improving energy efficiency.

The future of healthcare is wearable, digital and wireless. Hence, the need for miniaturisation of medical devices is growing. In addition to performance, the critical requirements are minimal power consumption and minimal size. During this webinar, imec’s Chris Van Hoof, Program Director HUMAN++ / Body Area Networks and Department Director Integrated Systems, will discuss the development of advanced wafer-level and board-level integration methods to achieve next-level miniaturisation. He will also talk about suitable electrode materials and wearable and in vivo applications, as well as the development of functional coatings to impart long-term package reliability. Steve Dean, TI’s Medical Marketing Director, will address the miniaturisation of devices through highly integrated semiconductor components for ultrasound and electrocardiogram applications. He will also explain how this trend is making its way into the consumer medical and home healthcare market, where portability and wearability of devices as well as battery life are key.
