EuroMold 2008: EOS Presents First High-Temperature System for Laser-Sintering High-Performance Polymers
December 2, 2008 – 3:15 am
Just in time for this year’s EuroMold, EOS (Munich, Germany) presents an industry first in laser-sintering technology: the EOS P 800, the first high-temperature system for laser-sintering high-performance polymers. EuroMold, the international trade show for mold making and tooling, takes place in Frankfurt, Germany, December 3-6.
“The excellent properties of the new material EOS PEEK HP3 in regards to biocompatibility, sterilizability, tensile strength, and conductivity are making this material especially suitable as a replacement for stainless steel and titanium in medical applications,” says Isabel Radwan from EOS. Possible medical applications are medical devices as well as implants. She adds, “Both product categories are of course subject to stringent and elaborate scientific testings, so that the development of those devices and implants all the way down to their marketability will be carried out over a longer period of time.”
EOS’ high-performance polyaryl ether ketone polymer, PEEK HP3, has a tensile strength of up to 96 MPa and PA 11 materials currently available. The continuous operating temperature is between 180 C° (356 °F) and 260 C° (500 °F), depending on the application.
