When you are sourcing a supplier, chances are that you take into consideration such factors as the company’s ability to satisfy customer requests, achieve agreed-upon product requirements and meet deadlines. You will probably gauge how efficiently it runs its plant. You might even look at employee retention rates and its overall worker satisfaction, as that will also affect your business experience. If so, and you have some tooling needs in 2012, you may want to put Gerresheimer Werkzeug- und Automatisierungstechnik GmbH on your shortlist. The Wackersdorf facility, which is part of Gerresheimer’s Medical Plastic Systems, scored high marks in the prestigious Excellence in Production German Tooling Awards programme. It is one of only seven companies from an initial pool of 291 to make the final cut. It also came in first in the category of Internal Mold Maker with Less than 100 Employees.
The judges were impressed by the company’s clear and detailed corporate strategy, its resource management programme, level of automation and employee motivation and engagement. On the customer satisfaction front, the judges took note of the highly complex tooling the facility routinely produces to exceptionally low tolerances.
The awards are sponsored by the RWTH Aachen University‘s Tooling Laboratory (WZL) and the Aachen Fraunhofer Institute for Production Technology (IPT). Representatives of industrial and engineering associations and members of the scientific, business and political communities sit on the jury. All tool and mould manufacturing companies in Germany, Switzerland and Austria are eligible to enter.
