Germany continues to hold the number one spot as an international innovation leader in important key and cross-sectional technologies, according to a new trend report published by German industry association Electrical, Electronic & Information Technologies (VDE). And this includes medical device technology. The current VDE trend report Electro- and Information Technology 2012 is based on a survey conducted among the 1300 VDE member companies as well as universities. For 57% of those surveyed, Germany ranks number one in medical device technology.
According to 88% of survey participants, Germany is the leader of the innovation pack when it comes to production and automation technology worldwide, while 80% believe that Germany is the world leader in electrical engineering. In the areas of nanotechnology and ambient assisted living, however, Germany and the United States are head-to-head, with the United States taking a small lead in nanotechnology whereas Germany is slightly ahead in the ambient assisted living sector.
When asked about future prospects, respondents predicted that Germany would maintain its top ranking until 2020, experiencing only minor downgrades until then.Yvonne Klöpping
