Irish medical device company Lake Region Medical Ltd has won a Shingo Accreditation Bronze Medallion for Operational Excellence. It is the first Irish company and the first European medtech company to be awarded a Shingo Prize, according to a press release from the Irish Medical Devices Association (IMDA).

The Shingo Prize for Operational Excellence recognises operational excellence and is a prestigious prize that has been described as the Nobel Prize for Manufacturing. The prize is awarded by a not-for-profit organisation housed at Utah State University in the United States and is named after Japanese industrial engineer Shigeo Shingo, who received his honorary Doctorate of Management from Utah State University in 1988.

Lake Region Medical is a manufacturer of minimally invasive devices and components for stimulation therapy, cardiovascular, neurovascular and peripheral vascular applications.

In the press release from IMDA, John Harris, VP OUS Operations Lake Region Medical Limited says: “The achievement is a real win for the company but also Ireland as an economy, as we strive to continue to grow in investment in operations by delivering higher value to investors than that available in competing locations globally.”
