Injection moulding specialist Engel’s new software iQ weight control can automatically detect minor changes in ambient conditions of moulded parts or in raw materials and compensate for them in the same shot. Engel Austria will demonstrate the potential of its new software live at plastics processing trade show Fakuma 2012, which takes place 16 to 20 October in Friedrichshafen, Germany. The company will use a number of demanding application examples for the presentation of the new software, including an Engel e-motion 80H/80W/180 T WP combi featuring a cleanroom design that will produce parts for auto-injectors via two-component injection moulding in a servo-electric 16+16-cavity index plate mould from German mould maker Hack Formenbau.
“Injection moulding processes in medical device technology require a very tight process window – and that is easily secured with the help of iQ weight control,” says Christoph Lhota, Director Engel medical. “This is why the software is of great interest for users in the medical device industry. As a matter of fact, it is suitable for all processes that are subject to high quality requirements as well as immense cost pressure.”
The software is integrated into the control unit of Engel injection moulding machines. As the system automatically analyses and controls the process in real time, changes are counterbalanced before rejects can be produced. The software also reduces the amount of work for the machine operator, according to the company.Yvonne Klöpping
