Medica Tech Forum: What Medtech Innovators Need to Know about Patents

October 18, 2012 – 9:44 am

The current row over the single EU patent will further delay an idea whose time came several years ago. But you shouldn’t let the stalemate in Brussels stop you from attending an English-language session on what medtech innovators need to know about patents at the Medica Tech Forum on November 17 2012. Part of the Medica exhibition that occupies Messe Düsseldorf from 14 to 17 November 2012, the session, led by engineer Thérèse Schölvinck, Director of Medical Technology at the European Patent Office, will provide attendees with information about patent registration and knowledge management.

In the collaborative whirlpool where academic researchers, industry and technology transfer institutions develop and commercialise products, understanding intellectual property protection and effectively managing the huge quantity of information in patent databases is vital. The seminar will provide scientists and business partners with insight into the world of patents, with a special focus on the European patent system. In addition to a practical introduction to the registration of patents, attendees will learn about targeted searches in patent literature and patent classification systems.
