As we reported earlier this month on medtechinsider, Avery Dennison Medical Solutions unveiled a new name and branding—Vancive Medical Technologies—at Medica in Düsseldorf, Germany. The reason for the change, explained Colleen Ward, Vice President, Global Marketing, is to better reflect the diversity of technology and products that the company now offers. A prime example is the Metria sensor technology platform that Vancive and its partner Bodymedia will launch commercially in the United States for weight management and wellness applications. Clinical applications are also on the horizon, and Vancive has entered into a partnership with US clinical services company Preventice to further this ambition.
As Deepak Prakash, Global Market Segment Manager, demonstrates in this video filmed at the Medica exhibition, the wearable device with a form factor similar to a Band-Aid is embedded with multiple sensors that capture physiological data that is then displayed on a screen. Specific sensing applications for the healthcare sector are expected to be announced in 2013.
