March 19, 2013 – 6:10 pm

An Irish software company has developed a smartphone app for oncologists. The app, ONCOassist, offers clinical decision support tools to be used at the point of care. It recently received CE mark approval. ONCOassist provides prognostic tools and calculators, allowing clinicians to input patient data and get instant results.

Some examples are:
- Decision support tools, such as a lung cancer tool
- Prognostic tools that can help in risk stratification and when making decisions for treatments
- Calculators for body surface areas, opiate equivalence converters and carboplatin dosage calculators.

Besides the applications above, the company (also named ONCOassist), can customise the app on request and is able to add any requested medical calculation within 30 days. ONCOassist was founded by three graduates of University College Cork, Dr Richard Bambury, Eoin O’Carroll and Kevin Bambury. The app was developed in collaboration with oncologists and other cancer experts.
