MEDTEC UK exhibitors Prisym ID (Wokingham, UK) and Proto Labs (Shropshire, UK) were in a very good mood, and not just because the event settled into its new home at the London Olympia with aplomb. Both companies are recipients of the Queen’s Award 2013: Prisym ID received the accolade in the Enterprise in Innovation category and Proto Labs was recognised for its achievements in international trade. The award resonates well beyond Great Britain, says Richard Vaughan, European Marketing Manager, Proto Labs.
“This award tells people here and on the mainland that we are a serious player,” says Vaughan. “It says that we are a large, and growing, company that is not shy about making significant investments in resources.” It’s the second time the company, which was founded in 2005, has received the award. Proto Labs provides custom CNC machined and injection moulded parts that can be delivered in as little as one business day. The medical device industry is one of its primary sectors, says Vaughan.
Prisym ID, which supplies turn-key labeling systems that integrate in-house printing with lifecycle traceability, was equally appreciative. “We are thrilled to be recognised for the innovation that our team has delivered through hard work, commitment and a belief that we could become a leader in our market. We have excelled over the last few years and have successfully managed the transition from startup to mature organisation.”
Each category of the annual Queen’s Award has a separate judging panel, which makes a recommendation to the UK Prime Minister’s Advisory Committee. This committee then makes a final recommendation to the Queen, who ultimately decides the winners. The honorees can now look forward to a reception at Buckingham Palace.
MEDTEC UK was held at the London Olympia on 1 and 2 May 2013. It will return to the venue in 2014.
