It’s a Buyer’s Market for Med-Tech Suppliers

The housing market may be sitting idle, but acquisition activity appears to be brisk among subcontractors that supply products and services to medical device manufacturers. It was announced today that full-service design and development company MedTech Development LLC (Sunnyvale, CA, USA) has been purchased by Tronics Microsystems S.A. (Crolles, France). Described as MedTech Development’s longtime partner, Tronics manufactures microelectromechanical systems (MEMS) and such for medical device and other applications. Earlier this month, Extrumed LLC (Placentia, CA, USA) bought Innovative Extrusions (Livermore, CA, USA).

MedTech Development and Tronics have collaborated on numerous projects through the years, notably in the development of advanced medical devices. By making the longstanding relationship “legal,” Tronics gains access to the lucrative US market. The acquisition also allows MedTech Development to accelerate its expansion nationally and internationally, according to a press release issued today. The company is headquartered in Sunnyvale, CA, and maintains an office in Minneapolis, MN.

The ExtruMed acquisition of Innovative Extrusions was announced on 2 September. A supplier of catheter balloon, shaft, and multilumen tubing, Innovative Extrusion’s expertise meshes nicely with ExtruMed’s product portfolio, according to COO Apur Lathiya. ExtruMed specializes in catheter tubing extrusions for critical applications.
