By acquiring Omnova Solutions, Wiman Corp. aims to diversify its production and add capacity to produce 1-mil grades.
Engineered thermoplastics compounder RTP Co. (Winona, MN, USA) announced yesterday that its sheet and film subsidiary Wiman Corp. has purchased extruder Omnova Solutions (Dupo, IL, USA). Based in Sauk Rapids, MN, USA, Wiman was acquired by RTP in 2006.
Acquiring Omnova will expand Wiman’s medical and industrial film product lines, which will now be available in thicknesses down to one mil, says Peter Ploumidis, President of RTP’s sheet and film division. “This allows us to offer our wide variety of films in any gauge,” he adds.
As part of the expansion, Wiman will retain all current personnel and equipment at the 3715-sq-m facility. In addition, Wiman plans to maintain a supplier relationship with Omnova to ensure continued availability of products currently manufactured at the facility.
A global compounder of custom engineered thermoplastics, RTP Co. has nine manufacturing plants on three continents, plus sales representatives throughout North America, Europe and Asia. Custom compounds in more than 60 different resin systems can be engineered for applications that require colour, conductive, elastomeric, flame retardant, high temperature, structural, and wear-resistant properties.
