Surgeons Twitter from Operating Room
February 18, 2009 – 8:07 amStaying connected and sharing events with family, friends or co-workers in real time is becoming more and more popular these days. The Internet, webcams, cell phones, and social-networking sites like Twitter or facebook have made hyper-connectivity possible.
And now doctors are starting to give live updates on their surgeries via Twitter. As CNN reported yesterday, surgeons last week “Twittered” complicated cancer surgery from inside the operating room. Doctors were giving timely updates on the procedure to an audience of twittering fellow doctors, medical students and the merely curious. By providing brief real-time updates via social networking sites, surgeons are hoping to educate other doctors, medical students and the public.
