Fakuma 2009: On the Road to Recovery
October 13, 2009 – 4:10 pmThis week is all about plastics. The international trade show for plastics processing, Fakuma today opened its doors for the 20th time. More than 1500 exhibitors from 30 nations are presenting their latest technologies, processes and products in the small town of Friedrichshafen, Germany this week. Yes, the plastics industry has been hit hard by the crisis — the automotive industry in particular. But by introducing new subject areas like micro injection moulding, medical plastics and microsystems technology, Fakuma wants to direct the focus to new markets. An example for this approach is the micro injection moulding machine for the gentle processing of temperature- and highly-sensitive materials for the med-tech industry, presented by the Institut für Kunststoffverarbeitung (institute for plastics processing) of the German research university RWTH Aachen. The institute is exhibiting as part of the North Rhine-Westphalia (NRW) joint pavilion (Hall B4, Stand 4114).
“The plastics industry has been hit pretty badly this year,” said Dr. Reinhard Proske, president of the association of plastics processors (Gesamtverband kunststoffverarbeitende Industrie e.V.) during the opening press conference. “But all signs are pointing towards recovery and Fakuma comes at the right time.”
Stay tuned for the latest in medical technology at Fakuma.
